Last night we stayed at the Northern Quest Casino on the western edge of Spokane Washington.
After 3 days in the parking lot at Schwietzer Mtn. it might seem a bit crazy that we voluntarily spent yet another night amid cars coming and going. Actually, it really wasn’t a bad place to stay. The RV parking lot was pretty big and there were only half a dozen other RVs around, so we didn’t feel crowded. The casino security made the rounds every few hours so we felt very safe, and there was blazing fast free wifi.
We ended up at the casino after researching campgrounds around Spokane and not finding any good options. Since we only needed a place to stay for one night while Tim got some work done and I ran errands, it didn’t feel right to pay $40+ for a single night at a crappy RV park. It was a good decision. Tim enjoyed the super speedy internetĀ and I finally made a trip to a garden center so I could replace my sad, sad traveling herb garden. After a few too many cold nights the poor things didn’t look so happy. I wanted some ornamental kale, but it turns out around here it’s a bit too early for fall plants. I settled instead for some hardy succulents and a burgundy Heuchera. I couldn’t be more pleased with how it came out!
Neither of us are big gamblers so the casino itself didn’t have much appeal. But we felt obligated to at least go in. So we did, and after spending 10 minutes at the slots we lost about $20. I just don’t understand how this is a fun way to pass the time? Apparently plenty of other people find it fun though because the place was packed with all kinds of folks happily pushing that button on the machine over and over again.
So our first free night at a casino was a success and tomorrow we’re headed up to the Northern Cascades for a trip through the mountains!
